What to Do When You Want New Garage Door Hardware

Dynamic Garage Door can craft custom iron-forged decorative hardware just for you.

What to Do When You Want New Garage Door HardwareDecorative hardware can have a big impact on the look of your garage door. For example, if you’re starting with a relatively simple wood garage door with nice clean lines, you could make it lean modern with sleek, simple hardware, or embellish it with an abundance of decorative strap hinges, clavos, latches, dummy handles, and other touches to create a Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean, or French Campestral look.

But what if you’ve gotten tired of your decorative hardware? Maybe you want to change the motif on the hardware, maybe you want a different finish, or maybe you want fewer decorative touches or none at all.

Fortunately, Dynamic Garage Door can help you get the exact look you want, without necessarily having to replace all the panels that held your old hardware.

The first step is to decide how exactly you want your garage doors to look with their new hardware. If you are happy with the number and placement of all the hardware, swapping them out all out for similarly sized pieces with a different style should be a relatively simple matter. If you want substantially different hardware, such as shorter strap hinges or a larger handles and knockers, this can of course be done too.

Next, we will design and commission your new hardware. At Dynamic Garage Door, we carry a beautiful selection of decorative iron-forged hardware specifically chosen to complement the styles of architecture commonly found here in southern California. However, we also have the ability to create custom-forged decorative hardware to your exact specifications. When designing your new hardware, we will not only consider the appearance of the hardware. We will also consider the mounts for the hardware and see if we can design it so that the new hardware will use or cover the holes left by the old hardware.

Finally, we will install your new hardware for you. If any holes from the hold hardware are visible, we may be able to fill them by using screw head covers painted to match the color of your door. However, this will not be a good option for unfinished wood doors whose color may still be subject to changes due to weathering. If this is the case, you may want to invest in new garage door panels or new pieces of wood trim as the case may be.
