What’s better – a metal or wooden garage door?
It depends on what you’re looking for. Wood doors are naturally warm and many customers love the way they look. On the other hand, a metal garage door, which can be made from aluminum or steel, requires very little maintenance. Either way, we can create the right door for your home.
Should my garage door be insulated?
What do you use it for and how do you use it? Is it attached to your home? Is the garage itself heated? The answers to these questions will foretell whether or not you should likely insulate your garage doors. Generally speaking, if there’s a room over your garage, then you’re going to want to insulate. If you use your garage for anything other than parking your car, then it’s likely you’ll want to insulate it.
How long will a high quality garage door last?
Of course, the type of door and how well it was constructed and installed will impact how long a garage door will last. Generally speaking, if you’re talking about a common 45 mm garage door that’s been injected with polyurethane foam, it should last a few decades. The paint finish, assuming you have a primer coat and then two coats that are baked on top, should last for 20 years as well, as long as you wash it every six months or so.
Is it better to get one double garage door or should I get two single garage doors?
In most cases, we recommend two single doors. Why? Because if garage door repair is needed, it’s still possible to get one car out. As far as how they look, some clients prefer the look of one double door and others prefer two single doors. Most designers will say that two single doors offers more balance to the overall architecture of the home.
Should we include windows in our garage door?
This depends on several factors. First, consider whether or not you want natural light. If you don’t have other windows within the garage then you may want them in the garage door. However, that brings us to the second point – security. Many homeowners want to keep their home as safe as possible and in that case, windows may not be advised.
